Matusow News and Rumors

Things have gotten quiet since the WSOP for Mike and many other poker pros. However, one newly minted "poker pro" AKA Jamie Gold has had plenty of action (and not the poker table kind). Shortly after the WSOP concluded with Gold taking home the richest prize in sports history, he was sued for HALF of his winnings from a new "friend". You see, apparently Mr. Gold made an agreement that if Bruce Leyser would find a few celebs to wear BoDog gear during the Main Event, that Gold would split his winnings with him. The rest is history of course, with Gold taking home 12 million and Leyser wisely (in my opinion) taking him to court to ensure that he gets what's owed. The story is a mess but if you want a chronological order of the events, feel free to read up on it HERE

In other news related to Mike Matusow, news has leaked that GSN will begin taping a third season of the wildly successful High Stakes Poker television show. Given Mike's TV friendly demeanor and you can bet that he'll be asked back. Let's just hope that he doesn't have a real life repeat of his recent big loss at Full Tilt Poker.

Mike is still in the running for the top prize at the Poker SuperStars Invitational, having made it into the sweet 16. The next episode will air on Sunday, September 3rd and we'll cover the results here. For those that are new to this show, it's recorded in a private studio in California and the winners aren't known until the television broadcasts.

The Mouth drops a little change at Full Tilt Poker

WOW...

Quite a bit of money changed hands today on Full Tilt Poker, with the benefactor being one Brian Townsend (screen name sbrugby) to the tune of $132,161.70. Mike Matusow, Phil Ivey, and for a brief stint Andy Bloch were all cast members in this horror flick (unless you're Brian).

Mike Matusow did some early damage taking a 42K pot from Phil Ivey

It went downhill from there

And ended with Mike finally calling it quits after multiple rebuys.

Mike Matusow WSOP

On this day, Brian got the best of Mike but Mike vowed to come back later and crush the Pot Limit Omaha game. Phil Ivey even commented to Mike, "Run your roll up to 200K so we can play some PLO tonight". I didn't see anyone playing PLO later that night but I know that Phil had a flight out of Vegas so it's possible he was held up at the airport due to the increased security holding up flights.

Take a shot at playing with some of the big poker stars on the block. Just try not to drop as much change as Mike :)

More random thoughts not pertaining to Mike Matusow

Time for my semi un-regular column that pretty much nothing to do with Mike. It does however, have some good stuff that you probably haven't found yet during your Internet exploits.

PokerStars now has a 100% deposit bonus for new players. For the longest time they rarely offered these types of bonuses. Get yours now.

Next is a great site that recommends online poker rooms reviewed and rated by Blind Bet Poker. Improve your poker by reading our strategy articles and discussions on the forums. Browse through profiles of professional poker players like Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, and Mike Matusow as well.

Last but not least, I found a good resource to keep track of the many many passwords that people have now. I have probably 9 different passwords for the various poker sites I play on plus all of my banking stuff, etc. Take a look and let me know what you think at www.roboform.com

Ok, I'm outta here. It's 1Am my time but only 10AM West Coast time, I gotta catch a plane and hit Vegas.

Matusow spotted losing monster pot at Full Tilt

Mike was spotted yesterday at Full Tilt Poker playing poker with his fellow "recent WSOP bustout" pros. Other names at the table included John Juanda, David Grey, and Farzah Bonyadi. Huck Seed was railbirding while waiting for a seat but I never saw him sit down.

It was pretty uneventful other than this massive 17K pot that John Juanda took down when Mike flopped two pair to John's set of 3's. The money got in quick on the flop and the result can be seen below.

Avoid losing 17K whenever possible.
