The many names of Mike "The Mouth" Matusow

He's been called much worse in his life I'm sure but did you know that Mike has many names? That's right, would be you be surprised to learn that Mike also goes by DillPickle? How about MrPokeJoke? Believe it or not, he wouldn't even get mad if you were to call him these names to his face.

Why not? Because these are his screen names when playing on Ultimate Bet (Dill Pickle) and PokerStars (MrPokeJoke). Of course his screen name on Full Tilt Poker is the ever creative "Mike Matusow" (he's a member of Team Full Tilt). Anytime Mike is playing a table at Full Tilt the table name will appear in red. The reason for this is that Full Tilt encourages you to chat, learn, and play with the pros at their site.

So if you're playing at any of these sites and you think about it, you can always do a player search and maybe get a chance to watch The Mouth play online poker. It's not uncommon to see Mike playing the high limit tables at any of the above sites.

You can also try Paradise Poker. Mike doesn't play there to the best of my knowledge but they do offer new players a shot at a MILLION DOLLAR FREEROLL. Let's see, play with Mike vs. a $1,000,000.00 payday. Tough decision but I think I'll take the freeroll!

Matusow appears on this weeks Poker Superstars Invitational

This week marked the first episode starring Mike “The Mouth” Matusow and if he weren’t already a celebrity, I’d say he got his 15 minutes of fame. Well, he did get 15 minutes of airtime before going broke but luckily his fame should remain. Was there a Matusow Melt Down? Read on…

In this match Mike is joined by Daniel Negreanu, Greg Raymer, Ted Forrest, Chris Moneymaker, and Erick Lindgren. Mike starts out the episode by peeping down at 5 7 of hearts and asking the table, “these are 10 thousand each?” He was referring to the chip denominations inferring that he wasn’t aware of the starting chip amounts for each player. After being told of their value by Daniel he makes a 60K raise, the table folds around to Ted Forrest who is holding AK and he quickly goes all in, Mike laments that he’s just lost HALF of his chips by folding the dismal hand that he raised with. You have to be aggressive with the starting chip count and structure of this tournament but you just can’t get that aggressive with 5 friggin 7 of hearts!

After losing a substantial portion of his chips when he made a terrible call against Greg Raymer, Ted Forrest tangles with Mike again when he calls Mike’s all-in with pocket 4’s. Mike is holding pocket 7’s and is a heavy favorite. Mike is in good shape until the river which brings the ugly 4 of clubs! Mike doesn’t have a meltdown but he does have a good laugh when Chris Moneymaker announces he folded THE OTHER FOUR! Ted takes the pot and Mike is now under 100K in chips.

Just a few hands later Mike finds himself all-in pre-flop with pocket 3’s against none other than Ted Forrest AGAIN. Ted is holding A 9 of spades and Mike avoids any trouble until the turn gives Ted an open ended straight draw. He doesn’t make his straight but he does spike a 9 on the river to knock Mike out. Daniel quips to Mike “Thanks for coming out buddy” while extending his hand. Mike does his best Bobcat Goldthwait impersonation while shouting “that was really really an amazing display of poker you guys put on!”

During his exit interview with the shows hostess, he summarizes with the following:

Mary Strong: Tough loss, you suffered back to back bad beats against Ted.

Mike: Yeah, this is the story of my poker life. It’s poker reality for Mike Matusow, the one outer on the river. And then the last hand, uh what can you do? You know you gotta get lucky early in these things and it just wasn’t meant to be but I’ll be back.

Mary: Thank You.

So Mike tried to play fast and hard, which isn’t a bad strategy with this type of tournament structure but this time it didn’t pay off. So far he has zero points towards the sweet 16 so next time he will need to step it up. Come back for an update as soon as that episode airs.
