Great Interview With Mike

All In Poker Profiles Mike The Mouth

A really excellent write up on Mike Matusow.  Here's one of the juicier bits:

Matusow managed to lose $250,000 in prison, more or less his entire bankroll, betting sports. But the more devastating loss, which didn’t become apparent until later, was a mix-up in his medication: Somehow he’d stopped taking Depakote, a mood stabilizer designed to combat his manic depression. There was enough residue in his system for Matusow, upon his release, to make a miraculous run online, transforming a $5,000 stake from Phil Hellmuth into $750,000. But as the remaining Depakote drained from his system, so drained Matusow’s ability to control his emotions. Over a three-week period, coinciding with the 2005 WSOP, Matusow managed to demolish his new bankroll.

Matusow Wins Third WSOP Bracelet

Mike played the short stack against some of the very best players in the world to capture his third WSOP bracelet in Event #18 ($5,000 No Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw).  The final seven were Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Erick Lindgren, David Benyamine, Tony G, Jeffrey Lisandro, and Tom Schneider so this was no cake-walk for Mike.  Mike picked up $537.862 for his efforts.

Mike "The Mouth" Matusow Makes 8th WSOP Final Table

While it's easy to love or hate Mike due to his antics at the table, nobody can argue that he's a hell of a poker player when he's focused.  That is evidenced by the fact that Mike has just made his 8th WSOP final table in only 9 years.  An impressive feat.

MIke is in the final 7 left in event 18 - $5,000 No-Limit 2-7 Draw With Rebuys.  His opponents include:

Erick Lindgren
Jeffrey Lisandro
Barry Greenstein
Tony 'G' Guoga
David Benyamine
Tom Schneider

A tough field.  I would love to see Tony G and Mike going at it :-)

Less of Mike to Love

Mike recently weighed in at 179 pounds which was all he needed in order to win his $100,000 bet with Ted Forrest.  ESPN was there for Mike weighing in in his underwear so expect to see that disgusting exciting site during the WSOP coverage.

For those of you who don't remember; Ted and Mike made a $100,000 wager last year on whether or not Mike could lose 56 lbs by June 3rd, 2008.
