Mike Finishes 16th in $50K HORSE

Mike picked up $88K when he went out in 16th place in the $50K buy-in HORSE event which many pros consider to be the real main event.

(Omaha 8 or Better) Amnon Filippi has the button in seat 2, Wolff limps for 25,000, Matusow raises to 50,000, and Wolff calls. The flop comes {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs}, Wolff bets 25,000, Matusow moves all in for 50,000, and Wolff calls with A-Q-6-3 -- a wheel (five-high) straight for the high and the low. Matusow shows A-Q-9-2, and he's drawing very thin, needing a three to chop the pot with a wheel, or running spades for a flush.

The turn card is the {A-Clubs}, giving Matusow two pair, aces and deuces, and additional outs to a full house. The river card is the {8-Spades}, and Wolff scoops the pot with a wheel.

Mike Busts in 11th Place

Just missing his first final table at the 2007 WSOP, Mike Matusow exits Event 19 in 11th place. Mike lost a good part of his stack to Humberto Brenes when Brenes pushed all-in from the SB. Mike called in the BB with JJ. Brenes showed AQ and hit his Q on the flop.

A few hands later, Mike raises $60K from the button. Devin Porter pushes all-in from the SB. Mike shows JJ again and Porter shows KK. Mike doesn't improve and goes down in 11th, earning $21,435.

Thanks for PokerNews for the chip counts.

Interview with Mike "The Mouth" Matusow

Bodog Nation is running a two parter interview with Mike.

EXCLUSIVE: Mike the Mouth Speaks Part, I
EXCLUSIVE: Mike the Mouth Speaks Part, II

When I was about 21 I was pretty much a lost soul without knowing what I wanted to do. I wasn't much good at anything till I got into poker. I was an absolute genius at it and maybe one of the only things at which I'm really good at in life. I tell people all the time, I'm not really the smartest guy around but I've got a great mind for poker and I'm very happy with the gift that God has given me, the gift for playing poker. I'm the type of guy who struggled with self confidence growing up. A lot of times I felt my esteem level was real low and poker brought me to a higher self esteem level because I was so good at it. It made me a better person.

Mike Busts Just Short of the Bubble in the $2,500 Omaha Hold 'Em/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Split

Not much to say other than go check out the article over at PokerNews.

Amy Calistri to co-write Mike's book

Well known poker journalist Amy Calistri will be co-writing a book about Mike Matusow. She wasn't quite ready to let the cat out of the bag but Mike announced it to everyone withing hearing distance the other day so she felt the need to confirm it. Here's what Amy said on her personal blog about the opportunity to work with Mike.

When Mike was sentenced on drug related charges back in 2004, I was one of the first people his attorney called from the Courthouse. There are a lot of pros that people want to read about, because they have become ”poker famous.” But Mike has a story; it is hysterically funny, heartbreaking, frustrating, and awe inspiring. During the book interviews, Mike has been articulate and focussed. And like Mike is - he exposes his strengths and his flaws with unflinching candor. Dr. Tim Lavalli (aka the Poker Shrink) and I signed our agreement with Mike last week and we are both incredibly enthusiastic about the potential for this book.

Can Mike Lose 56 Pounds By June 3 For $100K?

According to The Poker Biz, poker pro Ted Forrest made a prop bet with Mike ‘The Mouth’ Matusow on Day 1 of the WSOP. If he can lose the 56 pounds then Forrest will pay Mike $100,000. Wow, talk about motivation!

But, seems like Mike was looking to shoot an angle on the bet when his weight increased from 234 to 237 before the details got worked out between the two players. Forrest commented “He might weigh 245 an hour from now.”
